The origins of Freemasonry, as is amply demonstrated by an extensive historical literature and traditional, prior to and form the foundation, the establishment of the Grand Lodge in London in 1717. The "knowledge" is therefore the essential reference of Freemasonry since its earliest beginnings.

James Anderson in his Constitutions, which became the fundamental reference of the Grand Lodge, by introducing the degree of Master, Hermes replaced with Hiram, joining Freemasonry in the biblical tradition.
